An exciting weekend in the Czech Republic has come to an end. A weekend that didn't go smoothly, but one that our entire team can be satisfied with.
After almost every part was replaced in Veronika's GP2, she was finally able to drive all the sessions again. "It's so much fun out there, but the heat is really getting to you. The car runs well, a little oversteer here and there, but I have it under control," she said after free practice.
In contrast, Wolfgang Jaksch's GP2 had problems with a defective crankshaft sensor. Unfortunately, we were only able to find the fault during qualifying, so he had to miss free practice.
After his horror crash in Monza, Wolfgang Jordan was back in his Benetton for the first time and immediately felt comfortable again. "The feeling is coming back, I feel much better now."
In qualifying, Veronika only managed 22nd place due to a lack of driving practice in recent months, Wolfgang Jaksch secured 18th place and Wolfgang Jordan finished qualifying in 14th place.
"These were my first laps with this car today. It handles great and feels good, but the session didn't go smoothly. I got a warning message on the display that the temperature was too high. We haven't been able to check it yet. Either the sensor is acting up, or the temperature is really rising that high. But we should fix the problem before the race," Wolfgang Jaksch said afterwards.
Unfortunately, we were unable to identify the problem more precisely in the short time available, and so Wolfgang's GP2 lacked performance in both subsequent races.
Wolfgang Jordan also had bad luck in the first race when he lost his right rear wheel due to a material defect in the first lap. Veronika finished race 1 in 10th place.
The real highlight for us was the second race on Sunday, in which Wolfgang Jordan fought his way up from 21st to 7th place and thus secured 3rd place in the Open Class.
Admittedly, he benefited from a miscalculation by Hans Laub, who ran out of fuel just a few meters before the finish line. "When I saw Hans standing there, I just thought, why doesn't he get out and push the car over the finish line. But of course I'm happy about the trophy," Jordan beamed.
