Bernd Herndlhofer: The Story Behind the Racing Team

Motorsport has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, roughly 29 years to be exact. It all started with a mobile go-kart track my parents owned. That spark ignited a passion in me. Even as a little kid, around three years old, my older brother pushed me around the field in front of our house. It was the beginning of something special.

The following years we spent racing on many different locations, including our company grounds. Sure, there were a few bumps and scrapes along the way – that's just racing – but each experience fueled my drive and my willingness to push the limits. It was the perfect foundation for my racing career.

2003

In 2003, I took the plunge into Rotax Junior in Austria. The first few races with a team were a bit of a learning curve, let's say. But that's when my Dad, Karl Herndlhofer, stepped in. He said, “If we want things done right, we’ll do it ourselves.” And that’s exactly what we did. We took control, and it was the best decision we could have made.

The following years were a fantastic journey, full of challenges and triumphs.

2005 / 2006

2005 was a highlight, without a doubt. We became 2005 was a highlight, without a doubt. We became Vice European Champions in Rotax Senior, showing those big teams what we were capable of. Even a tough break at the World Championship in Malaysia, where we were running strong before an incident, didn't dampen our spirits.

The winter of 2005/2006 was a time of exploration. We weighed our options, shifter karts or formula racing, and decided on Formula Lista. It was a great choice. We had two incredible podium finishes that year and spent the rest of the time honing our skills in Formula Renault.

In 2007, we bought our own Formula Renault to gain even more experience. We also dipped our toes into Formula BMW, where we learned a lot.

2008

2008 was another exciting year. We acquired a Formula 3 (2003 Opel Spies engine) and competed in the ATS Cup in Germany. Despite a few technical hiccups, we achieved a fantastic second place in the Trophy classification, just a hair’s breadth from victory. Even when a last-minute engine adjustment in the pits didn't quite pan out as expected, we kept our heads high. These things happen in racing.

2009

2009 saw us back in the ATS Cup. The first two events were a blast, always on the podium! My teammate, a rookie, was doing brilliantly too. However, as the season progressed, growing operational challenges began to hinder our progress. But we never lost our passion.

2010

In 2010, we made a strategic shift, entering the ADAC GT Masters and participating in several FIA GT3 races with an Audi R8 at Team Rosberg. This proved to be an invaluable experience, working alongside diverse teammates in the GT Masters and partnering with Kenneth Heyer in the FIA GT3. Each race provided an opportunity for growth, adaptation. We are exceptionally proud of the progress and achievements during this period. Simultaneously, in the other race car, Michael Ammermüller, a former Red Bull F1 test driver, demonstrated remarkable performance.

2011

The FIA GT3 European Championship race in Jarama, Spain, stands out as a significant highlight. My colleague, Kenneth, and I secured first place, notably from the 15th starting position, showcasing exceptional resilience and skill.

In 2011, we returned to the formula racing circuit, acquiring a 3.0L Nissan. We achieved multiple victories in the BOSS GP series, dedicating the remainder of the year to rigorous testing and development.

2012 - Definitive establishment of our racing team

2012 marked the formal establishment of our racing team. We invested in a GP2 car and a fully equipped race truck, signifying our commitment to professional racing. We achieved an impressive record of 11 victories out of 12 races, with one second-place finish. Notably, our participation in the City Challenge in Baku, Azerbaijan, culminated in crossing the finish line first, a testament to our team's dedication and performance.

The passion that started our journey continues to drive us today. To this day, we actively participate in racing events, providing our clients with the opportunity to experience the thrill of the track. Seeing the satisfaction, joy, and lasting memories our clients create is extremely rewarding. Added to this is the visible development that our drivers and clients experience through our support. We are proud to accompany their progress on the racetrack and see how they improve their skills and unleash their full potential.
